Does business environment optimization improve carbon emission efficiency? Evidence from provincial panel data in China.

Previous research has yielded mixed conclusions regarding whether business environment (BE) optimization can enhance carbon emission efficiency (CEE). This study delves into the impact of the BE on CEE using panel data from 30 provinces in China, employing fixed effect, quantile, and mediated effect models. It innovates in three key areas: research perspective, mechanism of action, and heterogeneity analysis. The research found that the BE optimization enhances CEE. Meanwhile, the influence of the BE on CEE exhibits marginal decreasing characteristics. The mechanism analysis reveals that the BE enhances CEE through the industrial structure optimization effect and the progress of green technology, while it diminishes efficiency through the energy rebound effect. Heterogeneity analysis indicates that BE optimization has a stronger impact on improving CEE in provinces with robust government governance, younger governors, and highly educated officials. The policy implication suggests that local governments should continually optimize the BE, enhance government governance capacity, and prioritize the appointment of young and highly educated officials.

Assessment of hydrothermal carbonization and coupling washing with torrefaction of bamboo sawdust for biofuels production.

Two kinds of biofuels were produced and compared from hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) and coupling washing with torrefaction (CWT) processes of bamboo sawdust in this study. The mass and energy yields, mass energy density, fuel properties, structural characterizations, combustion behavior and ash behavior during combustion process were investigated. Significant increases in the carbon contents resulted in the improvement of mass energy density and fuel properties of biofuels obtained. Both HTC and CWT improved the safety of the biofuels during the process of handling, storing and transportation. The ash-related issues of the biofuels were significantly mitigated and combustion behavior was remarkably improved after HTC and CWT processes of bamboo sawdust. In general, both HTC and CWT processes are suitable to produce biofuels with high fuel quality from bamboo sawdust.

Passivity analysis of neural networks with two different Markovian jumping parameters and mixed time delays.

This paper studies the problem of passivity analysis for neural networks with two different Markovian jumping parameters and mixed time delays utilizing some integral inequalities. The integral inequalities produce sharper bounds than what the Jensen's inequality produces, consequently, better results are obtained. The Markovian jumping parameters in connection weight matrices and discrete delay are assumed to be different in the system model. By constructing a new appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF), some sufficient conditions are established which guarantee the passivity of the proposed model. Numerical examples are given to show the less conservatism and effectiveness of the proposed method.

Robust stability analysis of guaranteed cost control for impulsive switched systems.

This correspondence is concerned with the robust stability for a class of impulsive switched systems under the LQ guaranteed cost control. Some results on robust stability for this class of impulsive switched systems are obtained. Sufficient conditions for the existence of a guaranteed cost control law are also given. Subject to these sufficient conditions, the closed-loop uncertain impulsive switched system under the guaranteed cost control law is robustly stable with a guaranteed cost value.
